Före blindheten (Before Blindness)
Orden kom till mig som vissa arbetstitlar ibland gör, tanklöst, utan att man vet varför.
Delvis hade det säkert att göra med att jag under arbetet med dessa målningar ofta tyckte mig ha svårt att se. Förskjutningarna så minimala, skillnaderna i ton och valör så obetydliga att de nästan upplöstes. Som om jag drabbats av ett slags ljusblindhet, ett slags bländning. Men kanske ville jag också omedvetet ange den horisont som allt vi tänker, känner och gör avtecknar sig mot: vi kommer inte alltid att vara här. Vid någon punkt kommer alla skillnader att upphöra, allt kommer att uppgåi en likformig osynlighet. Men innan dess kan gränserna ännu förskjutas, något är alltjämt ofattbart öppet… Och det är denna öppenhet målningarna försöker sätta i rörelse.

Before Blindness (Före blindheten)
The words came to me the way working titles sometimes do, unthinkingly, without knowing why. No doubt in part due to the fact that while working on these paintings, I would often experience a difficulty in seeing. The variations so slight, the differences in tone and value so minimal as to almost dissolve altogether. As if I had been dazzled by a strong light, a blinding glare. But perhaps I also unwittingly wanted to hint at that horizon against which all our thoughts, feelings and actions stand out: we will not always be here. At some point, all differentiation will cease, everything will be absorbed into uniform invisibility. But before then, boundaries can still be shifted, something still lies inconceivably open… And it is this openness that the paintings attempt to set in motion.

Avant l’aveuglement (Före blindheten)
Les mots me sont venus comme cela arrive parfois avec certains titres provisoires, sans pensée, sans savoir pourquoi. Sans doute il y avait un lien avec le fait qu’en travaillant ces peintures j’avais souvent l’impression de ne pas voir. Les variations si minimes, les différences de tons et de valeurs si infimes qu’elles semblaient se dissoudre. Comme si j’avais été frappé par une lumière trop forte, une sorte d’éblouissement. Mais peut-être qu’inconsciemment je voulais aussi indiquer l’horizon contre lequel se dessinent toutes nos pensées, sensations et actions : nous ne serons pas toujours ici. À un certain point, toute différenciation va s’épuiser, tout sera absorbé par une invisibilité indifférenciée. Mais avant cela, les limites peuvent encore être déplacées, il y a encore quelque chose qui reste inconcevablement ouvert… Et c’est justement cette ouverture que les peintures tentent de mettre en mouvement.
